SINODRILLS DTH Bits

The DTH bits are the tool cutting rock. Sinodrills DTH bits are made of superior quality alloy steel, which is made in the U.S. Besides, all our DTH bits use the premium T.C carbide, which provides the T.C buttons for the famous brand. In addition, art manufacturing technology makes our DTH bits with higher and more reliable quality.

Features of DTH Bits

  • Tungsten Carbide Inserts: These bits are equipped with durable tungsten carbide inserts, strategically placed on the face. The inserts come in various shapes (domed, ballistic, conical) to optimize drilling performance and wear resistance in different rock formations, ensuring longer bit life.
  • Bit Face Design: The bit face can be flat, concave, or convex. A flat face provides excellent flushing and is ideal for hard, abrasive rock, while a concave face helps with hole deviation control in softer formations. The specific design is crucial for efficient rock crushing.
  • Shank Type: The bit connects to the hammer via a specific shank. Common shank types like QL, DHD, Mission, and SD are designed for different hammer models. A precise fit between the bit and hammer ensures maximum energy transfer and drilling efficiency.
  • Air Flushing Holes: DTH bits have multiple air flushing holes that direct compressed air to the bottom of the hole. This air efficiently clears rock cuttings, preventing the bit from re-drilling and overheating, which is essential for maintaining high penetration rates.
  • Body Material: The bit body is typically made from high-grade alloy steel, which is heat-treated to achieve optimal hardness and toughness. This material choice allows the bit to withstand the high impact and rotational stresses encountered during drilling operations.

Applications of DTH Bits

Mining, quarrying, water well drilling, geothermal well drilling, foundation piling, etc.

  • Mining and Quarrying: Used for blast hole drilling to prepare rock for controlled blasting, DTH bits offer high penetration rates in hard and abrasive rock.
  • Water Well Drilling: DTH bits are excellent for drilling deep, straight boreholes through various formations to access groundwater sources for residential and agricultural use.
  • Geothermal Drilling: They are essential for creating boreholes for geothermal heating and cooling systems, effectively penetrating hard rock layers to tap into the earth’s heat.
  • Construction and Foundation: DTH bits are used for foundation piling, micropiles, and rock reinforcement, providing stable and precise holes for building projects.
  • Oil and Gas Exploration: Used for drilling shallow holes and some initial exploration work, where DTH technology provides efficiency and accuracy in challenging ground conditions.

DTH Bits Face Design

The face design of a Down-The-Hole (DTH) bit is the crucial front-end surface that directly contacts and breaks the rock. This design, along with the strategically placed tungsten carbide inserts, dictates the bit’s performance, including its penetration rate, hole straightness, and overall lifespan in different geological conditions. The choice of bit face is paramount for optimizing drilling efficiency and is generally categorized into three primary types.

  • Flat Face: This is a versatile, all-purpose design that is extremely durable and works well in most rock types. It is particularly effective in very hard, abrasive, or fractured rock formations due to its robust design and ability to withstand high impact forces, though it can sometimes lead to hole deviation in softer formations.
  • Concave Face: Featuring a slight conical depression, this design excels at maintaining hole straightness, making it ideal for deep hole drilling where accuracy is critical. While its penetration rate may be slightly lower than other designs, it offers excellent control and is well-suited for medium to hard, less abrasive rock.
  • Convex Face: Designed for maximum penetration rate, the convex face has a domed shape that concentrates the impact energy. This design is most effective in soft to medium-hard rock formations with low abrasiveness, allowing for rapid drilling. However, it can compromise hole straightness, especially in fractured ground.
